A poet with a guitar whose songs became symbols of resistance to oppression. Through pointed lyrics, irony, and his unmistakable voice, he was able both to stir and comfort entire generations. After August 1968, he went into exile, from where he continued to sing about love, disappointment, and hope. After 1989, he returned home, and his work continues to resonate to this day as the voice of the nation's conscience.
