Karel Hynek Mácha
16. 11. 1810 –
6. 11. 1836
The most distinctive voice of Czech Romanticism, whose verses shaped generations. He became famous for the lyric-epic poem *Máj*—a work that was initially received coldly but over time became a literary cult classic. He loved wandering through nature, adventure, and travel, passionately drew, and tirelessly explored the world. He died prematurely, but his mark on Czech literature remains indelible.
