Heinrich Heine
13. 12. 1797 –
17. 2. 1856
His poems bring together irony, tenderness, and melancholy. He was one of the most prominent German poets of the 19th century and became famous for his sharp satire, which could move as deeply as it could stir. He shone brightest in the Book of Songs, whose texts inspired musicians and revolutionaries alike. His scathing criticism of the established order eventually led him into exile in Paris, where he remained until his death.
