Gregor Johann Mendel

In the monastery garden in Brno, he patiently crossbred pea plants and, through careful experiments, deduced the fundamental laws of heredity, laying the foundations of genetics. His groundbreaking discoveries received almost no recognition during his lifetime; only later did they become a cornerstone of modern biology. Alongside his scientific work, he served as an abbot and devoted himself with equal enthusiasm to beekeeping and meteorology.
