Benedictus de Spinoza
24. 11. 1632 –
21. 2. 1677
He was one of the boldest thinkers of his time: he sought to understand the world through reason, without prejudice or authority. Because of his radical views, he was expelled from the Jewish community, yet he continued to develop his teaching on the unity of God and nature. In the Ethics, he constructed an exceptionally coherent philosophical system that influenced Enlightenment thinkers as well as modern philosophers and made him a key figure in European rationalism.
