T. S. Eliot

26. 9. 1888 – 4. 1. 1965

He transformed the face of twentieth-century English poetry: in *The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock* and *The Waste Land*, he combined tradition with bold modernist experimentation, spirituality with subtle irony. Born in the United States, he later became a British citizen. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for his work and continues to inspire with the depth of his thought and his refined language.
