Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar

19. 10. 1910 – 21. 8. 1995

He transformed our understanding of the lives of stars. This Indian-American astrophysicist became renowned for his research into their structure and evolution, especially for discovering the limiting mass of white dwarfs, now known as the Chandrasekhar limit. His theories fundamentally changed the way we view stellar collapse and the formation of black holes. He received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his pioneering work and continues to inspire astronomers around the world.
