He brought relentless pressure, hard punches and an energy fueled by the roaring crowds of Manchester into the ring. The nickname “The Hitman” suited him: he became an icon of British boxing and won IBF and WBA world titles at light-welterweight, as well as the WBA welterweight belt. He shone brightest in his victory over Kostya Tszyu, but later came up short against Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. After a comeback, he hung up his gloves and took up coaching.
