Pierre Puvis de Chavannes

Nicknamed the “father of modern mural painting,” he became renowned for monumental compositions in which he combined serene symbolism, firm order, and restrained, clear coloring. The French painter significantly influenced Art Nouveau and the later avant-garde and ranks among the key figures of 19th-century art. His works still adorn important public buildings in Paris.
