He was one of the scientists who revolutionized our understanding of matter. The Danish physicist became famous for his model of the atom with electrons in quantized orbits, helping to lay the foundations of modern quantum physics. He received the Nobel Prize for his research into the structure of the atom and later also contributed to the development of nuclear energy, whose responsible and ethical use he consistently advocated.
