Jaroslav Seifert

He was one of the most distinctive voices in 20th-century Czech poetry. As a poet, journalist, and translator, he wrote about love, freedom, and the beauty of everyday life. He stood at the birth of Poetism and also moved within the circles of Surrealism, yet he always retained his distinctive, humane, and independent voice. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature for his lifetime achievement and secured a lasting place in the history of Czech culture.
