Isaac Mayer Wise

A pioneer of American Reform Judaism, he fundamentally transformed the religious life of the Jewish community in the United States. He advocated a more modern form of worship, founded synagogues and schools, and helped establish the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and the first American rabbinical school, Hebrew Union College. He succeeded in connecting Jewish tradition with the spirit of the new era, and his influence shaped entire generations of American Jews.
