Gustav Mahler
7. 7. 1860 –
18. 5. 1911
He transformed the orchestra into a laboratory of emotions and, as a conductor, championed uncompromising perfectionism and a new sonic imagination in both opera and on the concert stage. In his symphonies, he combined monumental form with intimate confession, echoes of folk music, and existential anxiety. The work that once divided audiences is now regarded as one of the pinnacles of late Romanticism.
