He was one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century: an Austrian economist and philosopher who fundamentally shaped modern liberalism. He tirelessly defended individual freedom and the free market while strongly opposing central planning. His book The Road to Serfdom brought him worldwide recognition, and in 1974 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences. His ideas continue to shape economic and political debates to this day.
