Aristide Briand
28. 3. 1862 –
7. 3. 1932
He was one of the most prominent French statesmen of his time and became a symbol of European reconciliation after the First World War. As a recurring prime minister and foreign minister, he promoted diplomacy instead of conflict. Together with Gustav Stresemann, he received the Nobel Peace Prize for French-German rapprochement and also contributed to the Briand–Kellogg Pact, which rejected war as an instrument of policy.
